PITTSTOWN, NJ - New Jersey State Police and federal authorities are investigating the death of a seasoned skydiver near a New Jersey airport last week, officials said.
The Federal Aviation Administration is currently investigating the accident that happened around 2:30 p.m. Friday near Alexandria Airport in Pittstown, N.J., an FAA spokesperson told Patch.
The Associated Press initially reported first responders found the skydiver, identified as Brandon M. Jackson, 37, of Toy, Michigan, lying in a field near the airport runway. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the outlet reported.
Jackson was a seasoned skydiver, according to a 2018 Lehigh Valley Live article dubbing him a “tandem master” for Skydive Jersey.
An FAA spokesperson said the FAA’s probes of skydiving accidents “typically focus on inspecting the packing of the parachute and reserve parachute, and rules of flight for the pilot and aircraft."
Additional information was not immediately made available by the FAA or state police.
