Board of Education Meets Monday, New Municipal Budget Expected Later in Week

Here is a look at five things you should know about and might not want to miss this week:

Number one:

The Fort Lee Planning Board meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Borough Hall’s council chambers.

Also Monday, the Fort Lee Board of Education holds its regular public business meeting at 8:00 p.m. in the Library of School No. 1.

Don’t forget: the BOE is “going green” with its agendas, according to its website. Fort Lee residents who wish to attend public board meetings or just want to see the agenda will find it posted on the district website by noon Monday.

Number three

Still can’t get enough meetings? The Fort Lee Mayor and Council meet Thursday in council chambers for their regular meeting. The starting time was changed from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

An agenda for the regular meeting will be available in the borough clerk's office and on the borough’s website by Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

The governing body is expected to formally introduce the borough’s 2011 municipal budget at the regular meeting.

Number four:

Longtime Fort Lee artist Barry Shiff has a collection of his paintings on display at the Fort Lee Public Library gallery on lower level of library throughout February.

Number five:

And in sports, the Fort Lee Bridgemen basketball team hosts Dumont Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Lady Bridgemen host Wallington Thursday at 7 p.m. and Saddle Brook at noon on Saturday. Also, the wrestling team competes at St. Mary’s High School on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. before competing in another quad meet on Saturday verses Elmwood Park, Ridgewood and Fair Lawn at 11 a.m.

And remember: Monday marks the beginning of the spring sports season as many high school student athletes will be able to sign-up for their chosen teams. To join the baseball, golf, softball, tennis and track teams, students should meet in the according rooms at 3:15 p.m. Check the Fort Lee Athletics Page for the appropriate place to sign-up.
