Cab Crashes Into House on Anderson Ave. Tuesday

A Babe's Taxi driver told police his cab accelerated when he tried to stop after backing out of a driveway across the street

Fort Lee Police say a cab crashed into a the front entrance of a house on Anderson Ave. Tuesday evening after the vehicle accelerated when the driver attempted to stop after backing out of a driveway across the street.

A Babe’s Taxi was backing up from the driveway of 1554 Anderson Ave. at about 9:40 p.m. Tuesday when it accelerated, according to police, travelling north across two lanes of Anderson Ave., crashing into the front entrance of 1565 Anderson Ave. and coming to a stop in the driveway.

No injuries were reported as a result of the crash and no arrests were made, according to police.

It is not clear if anyone was in the house at the time of the crash, but police say the homeowner was on the scene when police arrived.

Police say the front entrance and the door of the house sustained minor damage in the crash, and the then disabled cab had to be towed.

β€œThe Building Department came, but they stated that there was no severe structural damageβ€”just all cosmeticβ€”to the house,” said Det. Edward Young of the Fort Lee Police Department.

Police say charges are not likely at this point.
