Christie's Former Aide Hires Prominent Attorney in GWB Scandal

Bridget Anne Kelly has hired a “hard charging and prominent” attorney to represent her as the scandal continues over the closing of lanes leading to the George Washington Bridge last year.

Michael Critchley told northjersey.com Wednesday that he was representing Gov. Chris Christie’s former chief of staff, but declined further comment. 

Critchley’s high-profile cases include a successful defense of Ridgefield Mayor Anthony Suarez on bribery charges and an acquittal of the Lucchese crime family, according to northjersey.com.

Kelly is allegedly wrote the infamous “Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee” missive that launched the national controversy which has been intensifying for the Christie administration since early January.

The U.S. Attorney's Office subpoenaed Christie's re-election committee and the  New Jersey Republican State Committee, northjersey.com reported Thursday afternoon.

Last week a state assembly committee served 20 subpoenas to top Port Authority officials and some of the governor’s most trusted advisors—including Kelly.

Christie, who said he has had no involvement in the lane closures and has pledged to cooperate with all appropriate investigations, recently hired a defense attorney to conduct an internal review regarding the George Washington Bridge lane closures.

The New York Times, however, observed that the hiring of Randy Mastro, a longtime associate of former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, might indicate that Christie was maneuvering against the assembly's inquiry.
