1. Fort Lee Historic Park. Not only a great place for a hike or a picnic but it was also the location where a legendary battle during the American Revolution took place.
One reviewer from Washington Township, NJ said: "This park marks the site of earthworks and artillery that General Washington used to try to close the Hudson to British warships. There are rebuilt earthworks, a log blockhouse and a museum that does an excellent job in explaining this area's role in the Revolution. The staff (headed by John Muller - a true period curmudgeon) who does a lot to answer questions. There are school activities (reservations by school are needed) throughout the Fall and Spring on school days. This is history the kids will remember. There're also living history events (with the biggest one on the anniversary of the Fall of the Fort in the fall) run by the Brigade of the American Revolution. The log soldiers' hut is worth a stop and at scheduled times there are firings of the musket and the cannon. The trails and woods are delightful to walk - the South end features a beautiful view of Manhattan and, of course, there is a spectacular view of the George Washington Bridge. Admission is free, but there is a small charge for paring in the park itself."
