On Thursday, November 10, at 7:00 p.m., Fort Lee Library’s final segment of our “Meet the Author” series will take place. Fort Lee resident and author Jack McLean
will discuss his memoir of service in the Vietnam War and offer insights on writing a memoir.
LOON: A MARINE STORY has been praised as “a perceptive memoir … at times almost poetic – prose” The Washington Times has called Mr. McLean’s memoir “[An] insightful, powerful, haunting, extraordinary memoir. Loon is a remarkable odyssey. … It is a book that Mr. McLean was finally, blessedly, compelled to write.”
Jack McLean served as an infantry corporal with the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam in 1967-1968, having enlisted upon graduation from high school. He subsequently became the first Vietnam veteran admitted to Harvard University, entering during the tempestuous fall of 1968, days after his return from combat. Mr. McLean has since been a successful marketing executive, notable as the Founding Managing Partner of the Greater Washington Initiative.
