Fort Lee Councilwoman Highlights Green Initiatives at Street Fest
A section of Main St. in front of the post office was devoted to "environmentally friendly" companies and organizations Sunday
The ninth annual Fort Lee Arts and Music Festival featured hundreds of vendors, a wide range of musical acts andβof courseβplenty of art on display. But it also featured for the first time ever a βgreen fair,β sponsored by the boroughβs newly formed Environmental and Beautification Committee that organizers hope to make an annual event.
A section of Main St. in front of the post office was devoted to a βFort Lee Go Greenβ area, or what Fort Lee Councilwoman and Environmental and Beautification Committee Chair Ila Kasofsky called her βGreen Fair.β
Festival organizer Tom Meyers worked with Kasofsky to bring βenvironmentally friendly companies and organizationsβ to Fort Lee for the festival, including American Recycling Tech, Clean Plates, New York Waterway Ferry, Nuvo Green, United Water and Bergen County Utilities, among others, to meet the public and distribute items to help residents βgo green.β

Kasofsky said the committee had been planning the βgreen fairβ since December.
She described putting the βgreenβ part of the festival together for the first time as a learning experience, and said sheβs expecting even more participation next year in what she hopes to make it an annual event.
