Fort Lee Ties To Neighboring Community Events
Fort Lee has a hand in the Leonia Sports Boosters Fall Carnival; "All My Sons" on Stage
Fort Lee has a hand in so many events that take place in our neighboring towns. The fundraiser that's taking place in Edgewater Sunday is being chaired by two Fort Lee natives -- Edgewater Coucilwoman Maureen Holtje and Krissy Conway.Â
Speaking of thrive and drive, one of the driving forces behind The Leonia Sports Booster Carnival being held through Sunday in Overpeck Park is Fort Lee's own Greg Makroulakis. Greg, also the owner of ABC Towing in Fort Lee, is one of a small group of people dedicated to the Leonia Sports Boosters who, year after year, plan and organize the massive undertaking of running the carnival to raise money for youth sports.Â
Walking through a carnival, few people realize the months of planning, and the amount of details that go into running one. It's about more than selling tickets and contracting the rides. It's about getting all the permits, staffing of volunteers, finding qualified electricians to power the whole thing up, arranging for vendors, printing tickets, selling advance tickets, advertising and, most importantly, having the Board of Health certify that the food vendors have passed inspection and can operate.

Traditionally, the Sports Booster Carnival was held in the summer, during the Fourth of July holiday. This year, the date was pushed to the fall because so many people vacation over extended Fourth of July weekends that it was becoming increasingly difficult to staff volunteers. So for all of you who were wondering what happened to the carnival--here it is. And what a great time for a carnival. A little taste of summer fun in early fall.
The carnival's hours are as follows:

Players' Guild of Leonia
With the economy, as dismal as it is, and a Broadway show just too much of an extravagance, we are fortunate to have a well-established community theater right down the hill.Â
The Players' Guild of Leonia presents Arthur Miller's "All My Sons" at the Civil War Drill Hall.
"All My Sons" opened on Broadway in 1947 and is based on a true story Miller's mother-in-law showed him in an Ohio newspaper. The article centered around a daughter who informed on her father that he was selling faulty parts to the government during WWII.
