Halloween in the Hudson Valley

A Bergen County Fall Family Tradition

The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze at Van Cortland Manor

One of the most exciting things about living so close to New York, is well, living so close to New York and being able to take advantage of everything New York has to offer. And there’s no better time to enjoy the Hudson Valley than fall. The changing colors of the leaves, the crisp fall air, the change of pace.

There's one fall event that has become a tradition among families in Bergen County and that's the annual Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze on Croton-on-Hudson. Located about 45 minutes away, this is definitely worth the trip.

The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze consists of more than 4000 individually, intricately carved and illuminated jack o'lanterns that you and your family can stroll the riverfront property and admire.

There are pumpkins of all shapes, sizes and designs. You'll either be amazed and inspired by what you see, or if you're like me, feel completely inadequate and decide to just spray paint your pumpkin. One year there were pirate pumpkins, witch pumpkins, and even giant pumpkins carved into tomb stones.
