How did Fort Lee Voters Do on Election Day Last Week?

Slightly more than 2,200 Fort Lee voters re-elected two incumbent candidates but ousted a third Wednesday, electing one newcomer to the Board of Education

In the race for three seats on the Fort Lee Board of Education, incumbent Peter Suh was re-elected Wednesdayβ€”finishing first with 1,147 votesβ€”as was incumbent Joseph Surace, who garnered 1,019. Newcomer and first-time candidate Helen Yoon was also elected to the board, finishing in second place with 1,083 votes.

Michelle Stux-Ramirez (937 votes) was the only incumbent who was not re-elected. Tracy Mattei finished just behind Stux-Ramirez with 933 votes, and Paul Umrichin garnered 688 votes in the unofficial tally.

So tell us: In your opinion, did Fort Lee Votersβ€”what few who turned out to voteβ€”make the right decision on election day last week in choosing Suh, Yoon and Surace over Stux-Ramirez, Mattei and Umrichin? What do you think about a voter turnout of slightly less than 12 percent?

Results of the 2011-2012 school budget vote, which hangs in the balance after passing by just three votes Wednesday in unofficial results but is pending county certification of as many as 28 provisional ballots and ultimately the election itself, will have to wait for another discussion.
