KPAC-Sponsored Concert To Raise Funds For FLHS Scholarships
The concert featuring talented young Fort Lee musicians is Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Fort Lee Public Library.
The Korean Parent Advisory Council (KPAC) is holding a fundraising concert Thursday at the , featuring a group of five accomplished young musicians, including some current students and graduates.
The concert is free to the public, but donations are encouraged, with proceeds going toward four to six $500 scholarships for Fort Lee High School students—something the organization has been doing every year for nearly the past 20 years, according to KPAC president Christina Yoo.
“Every year KPAC has done—whether it was a garage sale, or whether it was the selling of items that we could utilize at home—we somehow came up with the funds, $500, for four to six students,” Yoo said. “But this year, the economy is not well, and we thought maybe instead of selling products, a donation-based, free concert might be more fitting.”

Among the five musicians, whose bios appear below, are violinist Hannah Kim and pianist Sunbin Jeon, both of eighth graders at the middle school. They will be joined by cellist Kyoung Hwan Eddy Kim and pianist Ahran Kate Kim, both Fort Lee High School graduates; and flutist Heesoo Josephine Yim, who along with Kate Kim, is currently studying at the New England Conservatory.
The program for the evening, which also appears below, includes pieces by Faure, Mozart, Vitali, Piazzolla, Haydn and Liszt.

“The program is wonderful, and we hope that many students who want to learn instruments or are thinking about learning instruments can join,” Yoo said. “It’s not just for the adults. The students made the program exciting for even the little children to enjoy.”
Yoo said the scholarships will be given out at Fort Lee High School’s annual Academic Awards dinner on May 16, 2012.
She also said Thursday’s concert will probably not be the only scholarship fundraiser KPAC holds this year.
“We’re going to see how this fundraiser goes, and then we’re planning perhaps a small garage sale for KPAC members,” Yoo said. “Every year, we did it, and everyone was happy.”
The KPAC-sponsored fundraising Concert for Fort Lee High School Scholarships is Thursday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m. at the public library.
