This Morning at the Fort Lee Rec Center, Josh Gottheimer, U.S. Representative, held a rally. There were dozens of signs permeating the area with his name to make sure that we all spelled it correctly.
Now, I have nothing personal against Josh Gottheimer, but I do question the management of this rally. Mr. Gottheimer’s record is not particularly impressive, but as politicians go, he seems relatively harmless.
First and foremost, if anyone thinks I am writing this as a Republican, please guess again. I am writing this as a resident of Fort Lee, one who found the situation a bit perturbing.

Question 1: Normally, the rec center charges a fee for use. Did Josh or the Democratic Party pay for its use?
Question 2: Did Josh or the Democrats pay for the army of police that were patrolling the area this morning? POTUS doesn’t have more protection than that when he speaks from what I could see. I arrived at 9:30 A.M. for a tennis game, so I did not recognize why there were so many police. At first, I did not realize what was going on except for the traffic jam and all the parking spaces being occupied, not leaving spaces for tennis players, pickleball players, or basketball players or parents who wanted to play in the park/playground with their kids.

Question 3: Are any of the Republican candidates, Nick De Gregorio, Frank Pallotta, and/or Sab Skenderi going to be accommodated in the same way? We all know Fort Lee is a Democratic town. (The Mayor and all Borough Council members are all Democrats).
Question 4: If the Democratic Party or Josh’s campaign fund did not pay for the Rec center or the police, is it appropriate for the Fort Lee taxpayers to cover the costs? While most people in Fort Lee may be Democratic, there are probably a few Republicans left who may not think so.
Question 5: While the rally was being held, individuals not attending the rally were discouraged from using the bathrooms. Is that ok in non-evening hours when residents are enjoying the park area?
It is understood that our local politicos will find this post offensive. Oh, well, sobeit.
