[POLL] Should Fort Lee Move School Board Elections to November?
The BOE is holding a public hearing on the new school election law next week.

On Monday, Feb. 6, the Fort Lee Board of Education’s regular business meeting in the “all purpose room” will include a public hearing on New Jersey’s new school election law, which allows school districts to move school board elections to the date of the general election in November if they stay within the state’s 2 percent cap on property tax increases.
The State Department of Education last week released a list of frequently asked questions regarding the new law (see attached PDF or click here).
“The Commissioners of the Department of Education and the Department of Community Affairs are encouraging school districts and municipalities, respectively, to take advantage of this new law,” Bergen County Superintendent of Elections Patricia DiCostanzo said in a statement.

As of late last week, nearly 60 districts in the state had already passed resolutions to move their school board elections to November, NJ Spotlight reported.
Under the law, if the school budget exceeds the cap, only the spending specifically above the cap would be left to voters to decide.
