Resolution Adopted Promoting Public Safety by Reducing Gun Violence
In light of Newton massacre, resident proposes a resolution on reducing gun violence that is adopted by the Mayor and Council.

InΒ the aftermathΒ of theΒ Sandy Hook SchoolΒ massacre, the Mayor and Council have adopted a resolution against gun violence during Thursday's work session.
Drafted by Rose Marie Manger, the resolution joins Mayor Mark Sokolich withΒ Mayors against Illegal Guns, a group co-chaired by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino that has received the support of over 800 mayors from all across the country.
This resolution would also supportΒ President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden'sΒ plan to end gun violence, as well as support theΒ bills currently pending in the New Jersey State Legislature.Β Β

Manger, a concerned citizen who had attended rallies to end gun violence hosted by Teaneck's Ethical Culture Society, also supports State Senator Loretta Weinberg's legislative initiatives that would reduce the maximum capacity of ammunition magazines and require ammunition sales and transfers be conducted face-to-face.
Included in the resolution is the assurance that the Mayor and CouncilΒ will periodicallyΒ revisit the issue of gun violence for the purpose of considering further measures to help end theΒ "epidemic" of gun violence.

The Mayor and Council were in full support of Manger's proposed resolution and voted to adopt it. SokolichΒ statedΒ thatΒ he hasΒ recently joinedΒ Bloomberg and Meminio's group andΒ supports theΒ principles the coalitionΒ espousesΒ against gun violence.
