Verismo Opera Reschedules Chorus Auditions

Auditions for the Fort Lee-based company will be held until Feb. 5 in Englewood.

The New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera has rescheduled the last date to audition for the Verismo Opera Chorus toΒ Feb. 5. Due to expected inclement weather conditions, prior auditions were cancelled.Β 

Auditions for the chorus will begin atΒ 6:30 p.m.Β and be held at 44 Armory St. in Englewood.Β An audition appointment is required and must be made in advance.

Lucine Amara, Artistic Director of the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera, invites vocalists who like to sing and want to perform on the stage in a professional production to audition for the Verismo Opera Chorus. Professional, amateur, and retired professional vocalists may apply.

An accompanist will be provided.Β The building is handicapped accessible and designated handicapped parking is available in the lot.

Altos andΒ male choristers, representing all vocal ranges and ages, are especially needed. Applicants should have a rudimentary working ability to read music and experience singing. An application may be downloaded atΒ http://www.verismopera.org/chorus.html.

During the company’s 25thΒ anniversary season,Β Vive la France,Β choristers will perform in the company’s spring production ofΒ Giuseppe Verdi’sΒ La TraviataΒ onΒ Sunday, April 6, andΒ La BohemeΒ on Sunday, Oct. 19 and 26. Both operas will be presentedΒ at 3 p.m. at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood.

Under Chorus Director Mara Waldman, vocalists will sing in Italian and explore grand opera through active performances. The operas will be fully staged and performed in costume accompanied by an orchestra under internationally renowned Principal Conductor/Music Director Anthony Morss.
