Week Ahead: BOE Special, Graduation, Summer Events Begin
A look at just some of what's coming up this week in Fort Lee.

The Monday kicks off a busy week for the local school system with a special meeting at .
During a private session, the board will discuss personnel issues and the appointment of a superintendent, and although the agenda for the public session doesnβt currently include resolutions appointing a superintendent or renewing the contracts of previously non-renewed teachers like seventh grade Language Arts teacher Christina Martelo or seventh grade Science teacher Ian Zellman, walk-in resolutions are always possible.
At the BOEβs meeting last week, school board officials said the , and to urge the board to reconsider Interim Superintendent Steven Engravalleβs recommendation not to renew the contracts of Zellman Martelo and others.

The BOEβs special public business meeting takes place at 8 p.m. in the high school library on the second floor of the school building at 3000 Lemoine Ave.
Also on Monday, the Fort Lee Planning Board will meet at Borough Hall; on the agenda for that meeting is βmemorializationβ of the of Tucker Development Corporationβs mixed-use site plan for the West parcel of Redevelopment Area 5.

Once the board votes to memorialize the approval and the developer publishes notice thereof, a 45-day appeal period begins, as Tucker works on finalizing financing, environmental remediationβa topic discussed at last Mondayβs meetingβand the plans themselves so theyβre βbuilding permit ready,β as Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich said last week.

The busy week for Fort Lee public school students and their parents continues Tuesday as well with high school graduation at the field, weather permitting. In the event of bad weather, the graduation ceremony will be moved to the .
The middle schoolβs graduation or "promotion" ceremony is Wednesday at the community center, and moving up ceremonies for all four Fort Lee elementary schools will also be held on Wednesday.
The last day of school for students is Wednesday, and the last day for teachers is Thursday.

The annual Fort Lee Farmers Market opens next Sunday, June 24, at the Fort Lee Community Centerβs plaza area at 1355 Inwood Terrace. The market continues every Sunday thereafter from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. through the last Sunday in October.
In conjunction with the opening of the farmers market next Sunday, the Fort Lee Film Commission, Fort Lee Historic Committee and the Fort Lee Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs will be providing a βFort Lee Historic Jitney Tourβ starting at the community center.
The tour, which is free to the public, is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. You can sign up for the tour from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Film Commissionβs table at the market.
