One Dies In Freehold Twp. Crash That Closed Route 9: Prosecutor
Seven-vehicle accident in which one person died closed Route 9 north at Route 33 Business, Freehold Township, until Tuesday afternoon.
FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, NJ — A seven-vehicle crash with one fatality closed Route 9 in the township until it was reopened later Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office confirmed one fatality as a result of crash Tuesday morning at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 33 in Freehold Township at approximately 10:30 a.m.
A total of seven cars was involved in the crash, the office said.

The crash is currently under investigation by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Freehold Township Police Department.

The crash required an emergency response that closed the road at Route 9 and Business Route 33 north of the Barnes & Noble store, the township police reported earlier Tuesday. Emergency crews and investigators were on the scene "for some time," police said.
According to a report by News 12 New Jersey, a driver seemed unable to stop at a light, hitting other vehicles.
