RED BANK, NJ — The Greener Blue pump-out boat is back in service on the Navesink River and Shrewsbury River, the Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners has announced.

Greener Blue, operating for 22 years, began a new season May 20 and it will operate on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Oct. 7.

“Greener Blue is a great, free service offered by the Monmouth County Health Department with the goal of limiting pollution in our waterways,” said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone.

The NY/NJ Baykeeper organization operates the vessel through a cooperative agreement signed in 2015, Arnone said.

Boaters can contact the Greener Blue by radio on VHF Channel 9 or by cell at 732-761-4997 on days the boat is operating. Services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

“No paperwork is necessary in order to use this free service. The boat is available to all recreational boaters and is not limited to Monmouth County residents," said Commissioner Susan M. Kiley.

Since the inception of the pump-out boat program, 21,295 boats have been serviced and 702,700 gallons of sewage have been properly disposed of over its 22 years of operation, she added.
