Leave Lots Of Time To Get To Freehold Fireworks Show Sunday

There will be heavy traffic going to the Freehold fireworks display and concert on July 2. Police offer tips for a less stressful visit.

FREEHOLD, NJ — The Independence Day celebration in the borough is Sunday, July 2, at Freehold Raceway and police urge visitors to leave lots of time to handle anticipated traffic.

Heavy traffic is expected on Routes 9, 33 and 537, said Lt. Chris Colaner, public information officer.

Police advise that you plan to arrive early to avoid traffic delays and delays entering the event at Freehold Raceway.

Plan an alternate route if you are not attending the event. And parking regulations will be strictly enforced in the area of the concert, police say.

Sunday's Independence Day Concert and Fireworks event is at Freehold Raceway, 130 Park Ave. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.

Music will be by:

  • WCT-A New Band of Gypsies: 5:45 to 7 p.m.
  • DJ Kortez: 5:25 to 5:40 p.m. and 7:05 to 7:50 p.m.
  • Alexander Simone & Whodat? Live Crew: 8 to 9 p.m.
  • Jimmy Armour sings "Star Spangled Banner" at 9:15 p.m.

The music simulcast for the fireworks provided by ARAT/95.9 and WJRZ/100.1.

Fireworks will start at dusk. Blankets and folding beach chairs are permitted.

To ensure safety, no coolers, backpacks, outside alcoholic beverages or pets will be permitted at the event, police remind visitors.

All bags will be subject to search. Police ask that you report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
