FREEHOLD BOROUGH, NJ — Freehold Borough’s fall hydrant flushing is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Borough performs hydrant-flushing on a bi-annual basis in order to help maintain a clear water supply.

On Tuesday, Freehold Borough Water Division employees will be opening hydrants around town and allowing water to flow from them. Officials did not specify how long water is expected to flow from each hydrant.

During the flushing process, officials said harmless sediments and minerals may be stirred in the water distribution system, which could lead to temporarily discolored water.

Until the water runs clear, officials said residents should not plan on using water for laundry purposes.

Prior to flushing operations starting, Borough officials have advised residents to fill a pitcher of water for consumption on Monday evening.

Water Division employees will continue hydrant flushing operations until the process is complete Tuesday evening. Officials did not provide a specific time that operations are expected to be finished.

“Everything will return to normal by Wednesday morning,” Borough officials said. “We appreciate your patience as we perform this important maintenance function.”
