Freehold High School Student Starts Soda & Coffee Company: Report

Lucas Salzman, 14, officially launched his company "Lue's Brew" in March.

FREEHOLD, NJ — A freshman at Freehold Township High School has launched his own soda and coffee company, according to a report from NJ 101.5.

Lucas Salzman, 14, officially launched his business, Lue’s Brew, in March. According to the report, Salzman was inspired to start the company after struggling to find a job.

“As a 14 year old it’s kind of hard to find a job,” Salzman told NJ 101.5. “Not many places accept 14-year-olds. But I still wanted to get work experience. I wanted to have responsibilities and make my own money. So, I decided it would probably be easier to start my own business.”

The company has its own signature coffee blend, as well as craft sodas in flavors ranging from strawberry to orange cream to black cherry. Each month, Lue's also donates a portion of their profits to a local charity.

In May, the company donated $280 to “Liv Like A Unicorn” from selling sodas live at their Run Like a Unicorn event. In addition, Lue's also plans to donate to For the Kids — a Freehold Township High School event that works to raise money for the Embrace Kids Foundation.

“Lue’s Brew is a 13-year-old’s passion project, offering a delightful range of handcrafted coffee beans and old-fashioned sodas,” the company website says. “Gather with us to enjoy freshly brewed espresso, gelato, and root beer floats, and be a part of our mission to give back to the community.”
