Freehold Student Wins Scholarship Worth $10K Over 4 Years

FREEHOLD, NJ — A recent Freehold High School graduate won a scholarship from the National Center for Learning Disabilities worth $10,000 over a four-year period ($2,500 each year).

Jocelynn Dow was class president, a three-sport varsity athlete, an AP Scholar and a National Honor Society inductee. She graduated with a 4.6 cumulative GPA.

Dow is enrolling at Rutgers Univerisity's Mason Gross School of the Arts for a bachelor of fine arts degree while minoring in Africana studies and creative writing.

"She aspires to help a new generation of young people find their voice to bring greater visibility and representation to women of color and marginalized groups everywhere," a statement from the National Center for Learning Disabilities said.

According to the organization, Dow has been a dedicated volunteer in her community, completing over 1,000 hours of service and being "recognized and celebrated locally, regionally, and even nationally via numerous Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Awards."

Through her passion for art, she has worked to inspire those around her and bring people together.

"Jocelynn aspires to help a new generation of young people find their voice to bring greater visibility and representation to women of color and marginalized groups everywhere," the organization said.

The Anne Ford and Allegra Ford Thomas scholarship, which also awarded a student from Texas, is dedicated to graduating high school students with learning disabilities and attention issues.
