Freehold Township Names Day In Honor Of 100-Year-Old Resident

The town has officially declared Nov. 5 as "Happy Lapidus Day" in honor of Henry Lapidus.

FREEHOLD, NJ — Freehold Township recently named a day after a resident who turned 100 years old.

Henry Lapidus, who was born on Nov. 4, celebrated his 100th birthday with friends, family and township officials in a birthday celebration on Tuesday.

Lapidus is an army veteran who fought in France and Germany as part of the 276th Infantry Regiment of the 7th Army in World War II.

He was awarded the Combat Medal and a Bronze Star, as well as the Chevalier De La Legion D’Honneur from France for assisting in France’s liberation from Nazi occupation.

Lapidus has been married to his wife Charlotte for 72 years. Together, the couple has two children, five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

According to township officials, Lapidus lives by his motto; “I never let the highs get me too high or the lows get me too low. I try to walk on level ground.”

On Tuesday, Lapidus received an official proclamation from Mayor Anthony Ammiano declaring Nov. 5 as “Happy Lapidus Day.”

“The township wishes Henry much love, health and happiness,” Ammiano said.
