Freehold Twp. EMS Chief Honored For Saving Baby In Home Birth

EMS Chief Jeremy Hoffman got the 911 call: A woman was attempting to deliver at home; the infant was stuck and mom was hemorrhaging blood.

FREEHOLD, NJ — Every day, EMS volunteers and teams across America save lives, and their stories are often never told.

But the 200 Club of Monmouth County is trying to change that, as last Friday, the club honored the men and women of local police, fire and EMS departments.

Freehold Township EMS Chief Jeremy Hoffman was one of the people they honored, and here's why:

On October 6, 2023, Freehold Township Police and EMS responded to a distress call at a local home where a woman was struggling with a home birth.

Upon arrival, EMS found the baby’s head stuck and could not complete the delivery. Chief Hoffman arrived shortly after, took control and successfully delivered the baby, who initially was not breathing and had a weak pulse.

Hoffman administered CPR for over 14 minutes until the baby started breathing independently. He also directed care for the mother, who was hemorrhaging blood.

Both the infant and the mother were transported to medical facilities and have since fully recovered. Chief Hoffman has since visited them, and they are doing well.
