FREEHOLD, NJ — With 18 horse sculptures settled in along Main Street in Freehold, it's time to visit and vote - or vote virtually - for your favorites in the borough's second annual Half Mile of Horses Art Walk.

The Half Mile of Horses is a public art show that focuses on the horse - an animal and industry central to the development of historic Freehold, also the Monmouth County seat and home to Freehold Raceway.

The borough now has posted all the photos and a map for an in-person visit. You can also use the site to vote for your favorites online. The photos online were taken by Carl Beams.

The photo above, for example, shows a work by artist Erin Marie Mauterer. She painted a horse sculpture with renderings of other animals of our "earthly kingdom," as the artist describes them. Her sculpture is titled "Life Is Good."

"The colorful animals represented in my sculpture are the emotion I feel when I think of the horse, the cat, the dog, all of those in our beautiful, earthly kingdom of animals. They are a life force in me that makes life good," writes the artist.

Thousands of people are once again expected to view and engage with the installation - and bring business to Freehold's downtown restaurants and shops.

The horse sculptures will be on display on Main Street from July to October. An accompanying QR code will be attached to each sculpture base. The public then can vote for their favorite horses.

A ribbon ceremony identifying the winning horses (Win, Place and Show) will take place in front of the Hall of Records in October.
