Monmouth Co. Will Light Up The Shoreline With Cellphones On 9/11
The plan is to get everyone to turn on their cellphone lights at 8:46 p.m, honoring "the heroes" of September 11, 2001.

MONMOUTH COUNTY — On the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Monmouth County plans to light up the shoreline by getting residents and elected officials together using their cell phones.
The plan is to get everyone to turn on their lights at 8:46 p.m, honoring "the heroes" of September 11, 2001.
“These lights are a symbol that we will never forget, and we will always rise above tragedy,” said Commissioner Deputy Director Susan M. Kiley. “For the families of those lost and to those who are still fighting illnesses stemming from the cleanup, please know Monmouth County will never forget. We especially remember the 147 men and women who called our county home.”

The event is being held in conjunction with 53 municipalities in Monmouth County. Residents who plan to attend can check with their local officials about specific plans in town.
The Board of County Commissioners is also putting together a September 11 Memorial Ceremony with families of Monmouth County 9/11 victims earlier that day, at 8 a.m.
"We invite families to contact our offices if they are interested in participating in the memorial ceremony," said Commissioner Ross F. Licitra, liaison to the Monmouth County Park System. "Every year, the County personally invites families of those who lost their lives on 9/11, but we know that people may move or there could be extended family who would like to help honor their loved ones."
The event will be held at Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook, at 460 Ocean Boulevard, Atlantic Highlands.
