Watch Out For Scam Phone Calls, Freehold Township Police Warn
Police are warning residents of scam calls impersonating the police department and asking call recipients to pay alleged fines.
FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Freehold Township Police Department is warning residents of scam phone calls falsely claiming to represent them.
According to police, residents have been receiving calls impersonating the Freehold Township Police Department and instructing recipients to pay alleged fines using Bitcoin kiosks or other commercial payment methods while staying on the phone.
If you receive a call like this, police are advising residents to:

- Not provide any personal or financial information
- Hang up immediately
- Call the Freehold Township Police Department directly at 732-462-7500 to verify the legitimacy of the call
“Please be advised that no representative of the Freehold Township Police Department will ever request payment of fines or fees via Bitcoin, gift cards, or any commercial kiosk,” the police department said in an online post. “Your awareness and caution help keep our community safe.”
If a call turns out to be a scam, police said their officers will advise residents on the next steps to take.
