Watch Out For Text Scam Targeting Local Business Owners: Police
Freehold Township Police are warning residents of scam text messages threatening recipients to pay a cash bond or be arrested.
FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, NJ — Freehold Township Police are warning local business owners of a text scam tricking people into transferring money.
In the messages, police said the scammers pose as sergeants of the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Civil Division and claim to be acting in conjunction with the US District Court of NJ regarding PPP loans, which were distributed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
From there, police said the scammers share what appear to be legal documents, and tell the recipient that they’re wanted for bank fraud and failure to appear in court.
