FREEHOLD BOROUGH, NJ — Residents, community leaders and more are set to come together on Saturday for a local event marking National Wreaths Across America Day, borough officials said.

At 12 p.m. on Saturday, volunteers from Freehold and beyond will gather at the Elks Point Memorial to honor local veterans.

The event is part of National Wreaths Across America Day, where people gather at Elk Point Memorials to remember and honor veterans through the laying of Remembrance Wreaths on the graves of America’s fallen heroes and the act of saying the names of each veteran aloud.

On Saturday, borough officials said those in attendance will include Olive Branch Lodge #16 Free and Accepted Masons, the Freehold American Legion Post #54, Marine Corps League Detachment #203, Freehold Borough and Township municipal representatives, community leaders, and residents. All are encouraged to attend.

“Freehold Borough’s long-standing support for Wreaths Across America is a vital community effort,” Council President Adam Reich said.

“It’s not just about a ceremony; it’s a powerful, unifying civic event that ensures the service and sacrifice of our veterans are never forgotten," he continued. "By placing a wreath and speaking a veteran’s name aloud, we fulfill the crucial mission to Remember the fallen, Honor those who served, and teach the next generation.”

“This act provides a profound and lasting sense of recognition that is deeply important to every veteran and military family in our community,” Reich said. “We are grateful for the residents that join us for this annual event where we recognize the men and women, both past and present, who have borne the cost of defending our nation.”

This event is one of the various events and programs that Freehold Borough, a recognized "Veteran-Friendly Municipality," supports or sponsors throughout the year to thank those who have served America, borough officials said.

Some of those events and programs include the Memorial Day Parade, Veteran parking, and Veterans’ Recognition Signs.

For 2025, the theme for Wreaths Across America is “Keep Moving Forward.”

This year, over two million volunteers and supporters are expected to gather to help remember, honor and teach at over 5,200 participating locations in all 50 states, at sea and abroad.
