Former Holy Spirit Football Player Fatally Injured In Expressway Crash

Donta Pollock, a former Holy Spirit High School football player, has died from his injuries after an AC Expressway crash on Christmas Eve.

ABSECON, NJ — A former Holy Spirit High School football player has died from his injuries nearly one week after he was in a single-car crash on the Atlantic City Expressway.

On Christmas Eve, Donta Pollock, 28, of Pleasantville, was traveling west when he lost control of his Kia Sorrento near milepost 2.9 just after 2:30 a.m.

The vehicle struck a guardrail and overturned. Pollock was ejected from the vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries, State Police Sgt. Alejandro Goez said.

Pollock was taken to Atlantic City Regional Medical Center, City Division, where he was later pronounced dead, Goez said.

No other passengers were in Pollock's vehicle. The crash is still under investigation, Goez said.

According to ESPN, Pollock was a standout during his junior season, running for a Cape-Atlantic League-best 1,868 yards and 29 touchdowns to lead Holy Spirit to a 12-0 record and the NJSIAA Non-Public III state title.

Overall Pollock rushed for 4,913 yards and 68 touchdowns during his four seasons with the Absecon school, according to the publication.

Several of Pollock's former teammates shared memories of him on social media.

"Rest in peace to former teammate and good friend Donta Pollack one of the best RBs SJ has seen. Always had a genuine smile on his face," Oakcrest High School offensive coordinator Kyle Klein said on Twitter.
