The holiday season is about more than lights and celebrations — it’s also a meaningful time to give back and make a difference right here at home. We’ve rounded up a few organizations in and around Galloway that could use a helping hand this season. This isn’t an all-inclusive list, but a starting point — be sure to contact each group directly to learn about their current needs, requirements and how you can best support their efforts.
The Arc of Atlantic County
The Arc of Atlantic County supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through day programs, recreation, community integration and skill-building services. Volunteers can help in the thrift shop, assist with recreation and sports, contribute to adult day programs or join committees and events that strengthen year-round programming.

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Atlantic & Cape May Counties
As part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters network, BBBS of Atlantic & Cape May Counties matches caring adult volunteers with local youth for mentorship that builds confidence, resilience and long-term opportunity. “Bigs” spend a few hours each month with their “Littles,” sharing everyday activities and experiences that help children discover new interests and broaden their sense of possibility.

Community FoodBank of New Jersey
The Community FoodBank of New Jersey distributes food across the region through warehouse operations, community partners and mobile programs that fight hunger. At the Egg Harbor Township warehouse, volunteers can help sort donations, assemble packages and support distributions. Note: All opportunities require advance registration and a quick orientation.

The Galloway Township Historical Society preserves local history through museum operations, archival work and public programs that share the area’s heritage. Volunteers can serve as museum hosts, tour guides or researchers, or help with collections, special events or administrative roles.

Humane Society of Atlantic County
The Humane Society of Atlantic County cares for animals through sheltering, medical services and adoption programs that help pets find stable, loving homes. The shelter relies on volunteers to assist with feeding, cleaning and daily animal care, as well as to provide additional hands at off-site community events.

New Day Family Success Center strengthens families by offering programs, workshops and community events that build connection and support. The Police Athletic League (PAL) of Egg Harbor Township & Atlantic County helps youth grow through sports, STEM programs and mentorship in a safe, structured setting. Volunteer positions include mentors and coaches, event volunteers, administrative support and advocates; program-specific opportunities are available in STEM, sports and youth camps.
