South Jersey AT&T Store Armed Robbery Started As Argument: Police

During an argument, the suspect displayed a handgun and stole an employee's cell phone as the worker tried to dial 911, police said.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ - A Philadelphia man was charged Monday in connection with an armed robbery at a South Jersey AT&T store, authorities said.

Nathan Jones, 20, of Philadelphia, was charged with armed robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, terroristic threats and related charges.

The armed robbery took place at the AT&T store on Blackwood Clementon Road in Gloucester Township at around 8:18 p.m., Gloucester Township police said in a statement.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving a 911 call reporting a man with a gun at the store. Officers promptly secured a perimeter around the store and immediately took Jones into custody, police said.

An investigation later found that, during an argument, Jones displayed a handgun and stole an employee’s cell phone as the worker tried dialing 911.

A search of the area where Jones was located led to the discovery of a 9mm handgun with an extended magazine and hollow point bullets, police added.

Jones was remanded to Camden County Correctional Facility.
