Black Horse Pike Schools Superintendent to Retire

John Golden plans to retire in June after 35 years in education.

John Golden, the superintendent of the Black Horse Pike Regional School District, plans to retire in June.

Golden, 60, made the announcement earlier this month at a board meeting. He said Thursday, it was a decision he had contemplated for more than a year.

"This district has been fabulous to me," said Golden, who has been superintendent since 2010 and before that worked in the guidance office at Triton High School. "A lot of good people work in the district. It's a very, very nice place to work."

Golden said his decision to leave now had nothing to do with the fallout from last year's which led to the prosecution and conviction of three teachers and an administrator, and the prosecution of an additional administrator. Three teachers were convicted of having sex with former students who they had developed relationships with while they were in high school. Two administrators were accused of not reporting it to authorities.

"That certainly wasn't a high note for the district," Golden said. "But we're recovering and moving on."

Golden's last day will be June 30. The board accepted his resignation and is in the process of finding a new superintendent, he said.
