Blackwood Resident Among 2 Killed In Head-On Crash In Upstate NY: Cops

The crash also hospitalized a teenage boy, authorities said.

CHESTER, NY — A Gloucester Township resident was among two people killed in a head-on crash early Wednesday in Upstate New York, officials said.

It happened around 1:45 a.m. on a highway in Chester, New York.

Sydney M. Haines, 25, of Blackwood, drove on the wrong side of Route 17 and hit another vehicle head-on, according to New York State Police.

Haines and the other driver — Mordichy Zafir, 54, of Kiamesha Lake, New York — were pronounced dead at the scene. A 17-year-old boy in Zafir's car was seriously injured and brought to the hospital, police said.

Chester, Orange County, is about 65 miles northwest of New York City.
