Brief Standoff Ends in Two Arrests

Edward Moore Jr. reportedly assaulted an officer in the incident. His wife, Portia Moore, also was arrested.

A Lakewood Manor Apartments resident barricaded himself in his home Saturday afternoon when police came knocking to serve him with a warrant.

After Edward Moore Jr., 45, answered the door at 3 p.m. on July 7, he pushed an officer out of the way and began to barricade himself in. attempted to communicate with Moore, but had to call in the Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiating Team.

During the incident, Moore’s wife, Portia Moore, 42, tried to push past officers to enter the couple's Building D apartment, police said. She struggled when police attempted to put her under arrest, but she was eventually handcuffed and removed. She was charged with obstruction of justice, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Edward Moore then emerged from his home and was taken into custody. He was charged with aggravated assault, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest.

Edward Moore was held at the Camden County Jail on $27,500 bail. Portia Moore was released after posting bail.
