Byrd Grabs First Collegiate Touchdown
Damiere Byrd scores a long TD in South Carolina's non-conference win over Alabama-Birmingham.

Former Timber Creek standout Damiere Byrd scored his first collegiate touchdown Saturday, as South Carolina routed Alabama-Birmingham in the Gamecocks' tune-up for next week's matchup against new SEC foe Missouri.
Byrd's first score as a Gamecock came on a 94-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter of South Carolina's big 49-6 victory. The long touchdown from sophomore quarterback Dylan Thompson to Byrd put South Carolina (3-0) up 34-6.

The scoring grab was Byrd's lone catch on the day, but offered a glimpse of the explosiveness that made the former Timber Creek star a target of many of college football's top coaches, including South Carolina's Steve Spurrier.
Byrd, a sophomore, now has four catches for 188 yards on the season.
