GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Cacia's Bakery in Blackwood will permanently close in the coming weeks, the business announced Thursday.

The bakery's last day will be May 12, according to Sam and Karen Cacia, who own the Blackwood restaurant.

Known for their brick-oven pizza and Italian breads, Cacia's Bakery has been a South Philly staple for more than 70 years.

Cacia's also operates several South Jersey bakeries, which offer specialty hoagies and full-service delis.

Only the Blackwood bakery is closing.

While a specific reason wasn't mentioned, Sam and Karen Cacia said the decision to close the Blackwood eatery "was not made lightly."

"We understand that this news is disappointing," their message says. "Please rest assured that we explored every possible option before making this difficult decision. We believe this is the best course of action for us."

In South Jersey, Cacia's also has locations in Williamstown, Hammonton, Audubon and Cherry Hill.
