CCC Marks 150th Anniversary of Civil War's Start
Camden County College is hosting a Civil War series through mid-November.

Then, boy, is Camden County College the place for you to be most Wednesdays over the next two months!
The school kicked off its free, multi-part lecture and activity series "American Civil War: A History of Ordinary People in Extraordinary Times" on Wednesday.

The series is scheduled to resume on Wednesday, Sept. 21, with a 6 p.m. short play by student actors and a 7 p.m. lecture by Hamilton College's Douglas Ambrose, titled "We are Two Peoples: Southern Cultural Nationalism and the Coming of the War."
The following schedule is being promoted by the school's Center for Civic Leadership and Responsibility:

- Wednesday, Oct. 5 - A display of Civil War artifacts will open at 2 p.m. Then, beginning at 7 p.m., licensed battlefield guide Jim Martin is scheduled to present "The Common Soldier in the Gettysburg Campaign."
- Wednesday, Oct. 12 - Performers from the college's Music Department will provide accompaniment to Civil War-themed films beginning at 6:30 p.m. Then, beginning at 7:30 p.m., New York University's Jonathan Zimmerman is slated to present "History! Whose History? Written by Whom? The Struggle Over the Civil War in American School Textbooks."
- Saturday, Oct. 22 - An encampment will be set up from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Wednesday, Oct. 26 - University of Illinois-Springfield's Michael Burlingame has agreed to present "President Abraham Lincoln’s Relationship with the Troops," beginning at 7 p.m.
- Wednesday, Nov. 2 - At 7 p.m., Georgetown University's Chandra Manning is scheduled to present “What Difference Did Slavery Make to the Ordinary Civil War Soldier?”
- Wednesday, Nov. 16 - At 7 p.m., Rutgers University's William Gillette is slated to discuss the role New Jersey residents played in the Civil War.
All indoor portions of the series will take place in the Connector Building.
The outdoor encampment will take place on the Blackwood school's campus grounds.
