Charges Filed In Fatal Crash Near Gloucester Township

The crash occurred on Sept. 1, according to the Deptford Police Department.

DEPTFORD, NJ — An arrest was made in a hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a Deptford man, the municipality's police department said.

Paul Margand, 60, was struck by a vehicle while walking in the 1000 block of Cattell Road on he night of Sept. 1, according to police.

He died a short time later at Cooper University Hospital, according to police.

The person driving the striking the vehicle "failed to remain at the scene," police said.

On Tuesday, the driver, 25-year-old Matthew Jefferson of Deptford, was charged with second-degree knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death and fourth-degree tampering with evidence, according to police.
