'Code Blue' Issued Until Tuesday In Gloucester Township As Temperatures Drop

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A drop in temperature has prompted Camden County health officials to issue a Code Blue until 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Temperatures Monday night will be at 31 degrees or below, and there is a freeze warning for the county and nearby parts of South Jersey until 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Commissioner Virginia Betteridge, liaison to the department of health and human services, asked residents to check on elderly and/or disabled neighbors to make sure they are prepared to stay safe.

Local municipalities are expected to activate their Code Blue response plan to accommodate the needs of people experiencing homelessness. The after-hours code blue emergency hotline is 2-1-1.

Betteridge also reminds residents to bring pets indoors when the temperature drops.

“As temperatures are expected to plunge into the 30s, we need to make sure everyone is inside and away from these frigid elements,” Betteridge said in a news release. “It’s also important everyone in our community, including our vulnerable populations, have their heat in working order and that all pets are brought indoors.”
