Timber Creek's Tyreek Maddox-Williams Gets A Shot With Eagles
Tyreek Maddox-Williams will compete to make his NFL debut with Philadelphia, with roster cuts and the regular season around the corner.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A former Timber Creek football star has another shot at NFL glory — this time, with the Eagles.
The Birds signed Tyreek Maddox-Williams last Friday, with the NFL's roster-reduction deadline and the regular season around the corner. The linebacker attended Timber Creek Regional High School, where he helped the Chargers to a South Jersey Group IV state title.
Maddox-Williams competed for Rutgers University from 2016-21. The Los Angeles Chargers signed him to the practice squad last August, but he never appeared in a competitive match. The team waived Maddox-Williams on July 28.

The Timber Creek alumnus has a short timeframe to earn a spot with the Eagles this season. Maddox-Williams will only have the chance to suit up for the team's final preseason match — Thursday night's contest against the Colts. This Tuesday, NFL teams must trim their rosters from 90 players to 53 before the regular season begins.
As he competes to stay on the Eagles roster, Maddox-Williams could also find a role on special teams, according to NJ Advance Media's Chris Franklin.

"Facing an uphill battle to make the team, Maddox-Williams has a chance to show off his athleticism as an off-the-ball linebacker, mainly on the weakside in this system," Franklin wrote. "Maddox-Williams could also stand out on special teams because the Eagles lost Mount Holly native Shaun Bradley for the season with an Achilles injury. Ben VanSumeren replaced Bradley on the kickoff coverage unit, but Maddox-Williams has a shot to prove he can make an impact if he gets down the field quickly and becomes disruptive."
Coming off a Super Bowl defeat to the Chiefs, the Eagles will open the season Sept. 10 against the Patriots. Fans in South Jersey can catch Brandon Graham and Reed Blankenship on Sept. 2 during Deptford Mall's Family Football Fest.
