Evening Travel Discouraged In Camden Co. With Icy Roads In Forecast

County officials urged residents not to travel after sundown Tuesday 'unless absolutely necessary.'

CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — Residents should stay off the roads after sundown Tuesday "unless absolutely necessary," according to Camden County officials.

Temperatures will drop well below freezing in the evening, icing up roads throughout the region, forecasters say. Crews continue to treat roads throughout the county in the wake of the recent winter storm, which brought several inches of snow and a wintry mix to the region Monday and Tuesday.

"All 12 snow districts will be occupied by crews salting problem areas, but we are urging residents not to travel unless absolutely necessary after sundown," said an announcement from Camden County.

The National Weather Service (NWS) expects lows of around 12 degrees Tuesday night in Camden County. As temperatures dip into the teens and single digits throughout the region, any standing water on untreated roads will become icy, the NWS says.

Crews will continue to make roads "as safe and passable as possible" on county-managed roadways, said County Commissioner Al Dyer.

"If you do not have to travel on the roads this evening," Dyer said in a statement, "please stay home but if you must drive, please just take your time, be aware of the conditions and slow down."
