LAS VEGAS — A former Timber Creek quarterback helped Patrick Mahones and the Chiefs secure their third Lombardi Trophy in four years.

Dan Williams joined the Chiefs in 2019 as a coaching intern before getting promoted to the coaching staff one year later. He's been part of all three recent Super Bowl-winning teams and currently serves as offensive quality control/assistant quarterbacks coach.

The Chiefs defeated the 49ers, 25-22, on Sunday to secure their third Super Bowl title in four years and fourth in franchise history.

Football is in Williams's blood. His father, Ted, was an Eagles assistant coach from 1995-2014 and spent many of those years on Andy Reid's coaching staff.

Dan Williams, a Sicklerville native, graduated from Timber Creek Regional High School in 2014. In that time, he broke a state record with 3,345 passing yards in a season. The Chargers also reached the South Group 4 State Championship in 2012.

After high school, Williams competed for Stevenson University — a Divison III school in Maryland.

Reid, the current Chiefs head coach, brought Williams in as a coaching intern in 2019. That season marked the Chiefs' first championship in their recent string of domination, with Mahomes securing his first of three Super Bowl MVP awards as quarterback.

From 2020-22, Williams served as assistant to the head coach. He was an offensive assistant in 2023 before taking his current position this year.

Williams is among two quarterback specialists on the Chiefs' current coaching staff, with David Girardi serving as quarterbacks coach. The team is clearly doing something right with its positional coaching, as Mahomes continues to build a career that could rival the all-time greats.

Mahomes came through once again Sunday by tossing the Super Bowl-clinching touchdown to Mecole Hardman Jr. in overtime. He completed 34 of 46 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the game.
