Gloucester Township’s Jen Davis ‘Shows Up’ For Anyone Treated Unfairly
Patch and T-Mobile are partnering to shine a light on awesome moms in the Gloucester Township area. Meet Jenéa S. Davis!

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ— Moms do so much for everyone around them. We try to celebrate them all year long, but Mother's Day is a perfect opportunity to shout it from the rooftops and post it on Patch: Mom rocks!
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize the awesome moms and mom figures in communities like yours.
This submission comes from Hunter'Reese Davis-Blassengale who nominated Jenéa S. Davis of Gloucester Township.
What makes your mom extra special?
My mother is a single mother who not only works hard to provide for me, she does so very much for the community.
My mom was laid off from her corporate job some years back and we almost lost everything! She set at our dining room table crying so hard because she did not know how we were going to survive this horrible situation. She tried to hide it from me, but when I got home from school I knew our lives would never be the same from that moment. My mom's eyes were so puffy and red from crying and I asked her what was wrong. She said nothing, but I begged her to tell me and she finally did.
After trying to process what she said, I remember telling my mom, "Congratulations, Mom, and now you can go get that degree you always wanted!" She was confused at my response but a few days later she went down to Camden County College and signed up for classes and she never looked back.
Camden County College really supported my mom and made sure she ended up as a rock star! She made so many sacrifices to finish at CCC and get her degree. She actually graduated top of her class and her next stop was Rutgers University. She worked even harder to get her degree from Rutgers and she graduated with honors from Rutgers, too.
I watched my mom fight for us to make those degrees possible. She showed me hard work really pays off, which is why I feel bad that I am not putting the same effort into my schoolwork. I know better and I want better because my mom has showed me that anything is possible.
She struggles so hard to make ends meet so she can pursue her dream of becoming a public health dentist and serve those who are in need. However, although she is barely getting by and trying to make sure I have everything I need to thrive, she still finds a way to give back to others and make a difference.
There have been so many things I watched my mom do even after the pain and fear of being laid off from her big corporate job. My mom always seems to pick herself up and keep going even when things are at their worst. She finds the good somehow and she teaches me to do the same. I am so lucky to have such a rock star as a mom! Others are so lucky that they get to share my mom and experience the benefits from my rock star mom because she does so much I can barely keep up.
She is a former Alumna Board of Trustee of Camden County College, and she serves on several other boards and committees in the community. She even served as team mom on my football team. She is the current president of the Home and School Council at my high school, Highland Regional High. She is the school representative for Gloucester Township Schools, and she helps those in need and influence others to support when there is a need.
She is a community advocate, a leader, an educator and plus she is in school full-time studying to become a doctor in dentistry.
She does so much for me and others that she even won Gloucester Township's Citizens of the Year Award, and she just got awarded the Teacher Assistant of the Year Award at Temple University.
She never gives up. I see her studying so hard to make good grades and reach her goals. She also is dedicated to her students at Temple. She gives them her full support and attention to make sure they do well. She loves me so much and she loves her community and will do anything to make sure we are all good!! I am having a tough senior year and my mom never gives up on me.
She pushes me and believes in me even when I don't do what I am supposed to do with my academics. No matter what others may think, she shows up for me and protects me and any person, kid, or adult that is not being treated fairly.
And can you believe my mom graduates from Temple University next week top of her class and she will have her master's in public health. She did it once again! She will continue to pursue dentistry, and I am sure she will do that, too.
I know I can do it because I watched my mom do it as a single parent with almost no resources. I must do better and work harder to make my mom proud because she has made me incredibly proud to have her as a mom! She deserves nothing but the best because she is so selfless and never puts herself first.
I love my mom so much and I do not know what I would do without her. I know we don't always agree and she sometimes makes me mad; at the end of the day I know she wants nothing but the best for me. She is my rock, my friend, my driving force, and my hero. She is the Mother of the Year and the world needs to celebrate my mom, Ms. Jenéa (Jen) Davis! Love you so much MOM!
Why do you feel your mom deserves the spotlight?
She is a true ROCK STAR! She does so much for me and others and she is selfless.
Happy Mother's Day to Jenéa S. Davis, and thank you for all you do!
