Parents, Retired Teacher Lead Gloucester Twp. School Board's Crowded Election Field

The board is set to have 3 new members after an election that featured 9 candidates.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Gloucester Township Board of Education is set to have three new members after two district parents and a retired teacher finished Election Night with commanding leads.

Nine candidates ran for three board seats. The leading vote-getters Tuesday were Karen Maschke (9,073 votes) and Joe Tursi (8,905) and Charles "Chip" Pildis (8,718). All three received over 3,500 votes more than any other candidate.

Maschke and Tursi campaigned together under the "Honest Committed Parents" ballot slogan. Both have children who attend Gloucester Township schools.

Pildis taught in the Gloucester Township School District for 37 years before retiring. His children attended schools in the district.

School Board Member Nancy Fritz was the only incumbent in the race. She holds fifth place with 4,731 votes.

Board President Jennifer O'Donnell and Board Member Keith Gibbons did not run for re-election. They instead ran as independents in Gloucester Township's mayor and council races and lost. Read more: Democrats Hold Commanding Leads In Gloucester Twp. Elections

Gloucester Township Public Schools serve PreK through eighth grade, while high schoolers in the township attend Black Horse Pike schools.

Incumbent Robert DiMaulo ran unopposed in Gloucester Township's election for the Black Horse Pike Board of Education.

Election results remain unofficial until certified by the Camden County Clerk's Office on a later date.
