Here's How Many New COVID Cases Camden County Saw This Week

The variant accounted for more than half of NJ cases over a four-week period. Here's a look at the impact it's having on Camden County.

CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — Camden County and New Jersey have seen an uptick in coronavirus cases. But what does that mean for the county?

As of Friday, there have been 51,886 coronavirus cases and 1,242 coronavirus-related deaths in Burlington County since the pandemic began in March 2020.

This is an increase of 601 cases and five deaths from last week, when there were 51,285 coronavirus cases in Camden County. No new deaths were reported this week.

Officials continue to monitor the delta variant, which accounted for 93.5 percent of coronavirus cases in New Jersey over the last four-weeks, according to data provided by the state department of health.

Camden County has "moderate" COVID activity, according to New Jersey's latest weekly report. The determination is based on metrics such as case rate, positivity rate and prevalence of COVID-like illnesses.

“This is the largest single day case total we have seen in several months," Camden County Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli, Jr. said on Friday, when 137 new cases were reported countywide. "This new wave of cases has shown no signs of slowing down yet. The best way to protect yourself continues to be the vaccines which are readily available throughout the community. This fast, free, and simple vaccination dramatically reduces the risk of infection, hospitalization, and death due to COVID-19.”

As of Friday, 312,975 Camden County residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 283,611 are fully vaccinated. More information regarding vaccination rates throughout the county and available on the state’s COVID-19 dashboard at covid19.nj.gov.

The county Health Department is continuing to closely track new cases of COVID-19 and information regarding the prevalence of the Delta variant. New cases are often reassigned to other municipalities over the course of an investigation.
