Human Skeletal Remains Found In South Jersey Woods

Authorities are investigating what happened.

DEERFIELD, NJ — Human skeletal remains were found last month in the woods of a rural South Jersey town.

The remains were discovered in the woods near Lebabon Road in Deerfield Township, Cumberland County, authorities said. State troopers responded to the scene at 5:20 p.m. March 6 to investigate.

It's unclear whether authorities have uncovered the deceased person's identity or cause of death.

The investigation remains active, and no additional information is available, a State Police spokesperson told Patch on Thursday.

State Police conduct local law enforcement for Deerfield, which doesn't have its own police agency.
