The local political landscape won’t change this year, as there are no council elections in 2022, but one resident asked local leaders to change the landscape as far as internet providers are concerned.

“I’ve only lived in Glendora for about a year, but I’m disappointed with Comcast’s business practices,” said Brian Everett, who noted that his monthly bill has gone up by $20 in only a year. “The company knows I don’t have any other options, and they can take advantage of myself and my neighbors. I stream TV to try and save money, but access to the internet at an affordable rate in Glendora is becoming tougher to come by.”

Mayer noted that Comcast has a local franchise agreement with the township, while their main competitor, Verizon, has a statewide franchise agreement with New Jersey.

“It’s up to them to deploy into whatever town they want,” Mayer said. “They are coming into Gloucester Township, but I don’t know what their exact plan is. It’s not up to the town to control that, but we know how important it is to have access to the internet.”
