A Pennsylvania man has been charged with attempted murder for shooting at two police officers in Gloucester County earlier this week, authorities announced on Friday.

Arthur Disanto, 41, of Delaware County, was also injured in the shooting. The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office was chosen by the Attorney General’s Office to investigate the police-involved shooting, and that investigation continues, according to authorities. Police in Media, Pennsyvlania, attempted to arrest 41-year-old Arthur Disanto, of Delaware County, on charges that he shot a woman in Media in July, according to authorities. Disanto fled to Deptford.

At about 7:30 p.m. that night, a resident reported a suspicious car parked outside his home, authorities said. Officers from several police departments in Gloucester County responded, and ultimately found Disanto in a wooded area behind Cape Cod Drive in Washington Township, authorities said.

Disanto fled to Barnsboro Road, where he and a police officer from Monroe Township exchanged gunfire, police said. The officer was shot in the hand and ear, according to authorities. The officer has been treated and released from the hospital.

Disanto then shot at a Deptford police officer, according to authorities.

Disanto was also shot three times, authorities said. He was taken to Cooper Medical Center, where he remains in critical but stable condition. The gun he used has been recovered, authorities said.

Disanto has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, six counts of aggravated assault, four counts of resisting arrest, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, and one count each of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain persons not to possess a weapon and receiving stolen property.

The Attorney General Office of Public Integrity & Accountability has appointed the Camden County Prosecutor's Office as Independent Prosecutor.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Unit and Special Prosecutions Unit will now continue the investigation of both the use of force matter and the potential underlying criminal charges.
