Moms Talk: Allowances

GT Patch wants parents to respond to a few questions about allowances.

I fondly remember the days when all I needed to get by was the $10 my parents gave me each week to cut the grass, take out the trash and clean my room—tasks I had to complete once each week (well, I didn't cut the grass in the winter).

I would say my parents started paying me a weekly allowance when I was 10, 11 years old. As I got a bit older, I picked up some other lawns in the neighborhood to make some extra dough.

That was more than 20 years ago now.

So, GT Patch asks parents out there: How much do you give your children as a weekly allowance? Do you actually hold them to all of their chores? What is the right age to begin giving kids allowances?
